A Fresh Start

Chapter 1
Ringing It In
Rose paused at the threshold of her house, trying to keep herself from slipping on the ice-covered porch. A pale blue blanket was wrapped around her shoulders, since she had just stepped outside of the house for a moment.
She gazed, longingly, out at the city in front of her. Ah, it seems so nice out there. I've been there once or twice. I can't remember anymore…what's it like out there right now, I wonder?

I SAW A DEAD HIPPO

FLOATIN IN THE WATER

HIS FRIEND CAME BY AND I WENT UP AND SHOT HER

THE NEXT BLOODY HIPPO CAME FLOATING IN THE RIVER

HE LOOKED AT ME AND I STARTED TO SHIVER

I KNEW WHAT HE WAS THINKING AS THOSE EYES STARED AT ME

HE SUDDENLY DIED AND I WAS FILLED WITH GLEE

IT WAS A SAD, SAD DAY FOR ALL THOSE HIPPOS

SO MANY OF THEM DIED, AND NOW THEY ARE ZIPPOS

DEAD HIPPOS!
